Clinical Depression - When Life Is Just Too Hard

By Judy Wellsworth

No human being has ever walked the planet Earth for any length of time without experiencing sadness, a feeling of isolation, or anger. Those feelings may be triggered by any number of events, from the loss of a loved one to the fear which arises from the loss of one’s livelihood, to the sense of failure resulting when something for which one had worked very hard did not materialize.

Most people, while they may at first feel emotionally devastated by a bad outcome, are in a reasonably short time to move on and face life again. But in those who cannot shake off their feelings of loss and grief, and find themselves too overwhelmed to even perform their basic daily tasks, clinical depression may be developing.

Exposed: The Myth of Chemical Imbalances and Depression

By: Chris Green

If you’ve been told by a health professional that you are depressed because of a chemical imbalance within your brain, then you’ve been misled. Imbalances have never been proven to cause depression and here’s why this theory is seriously flawed.

Perhaps the biggest flaw with attributing the cause of depressive illnesses to chemical imbalances is one of order. The question is: What comes first, imbalances or emotional turmoil? If we look at somebody who has just been told of the unexpected death of a loved one and who enters into depression, we can see that it isn’t chemical imbalances that came first, it is the sad news that triggered the depression. If there are chemical imbalances, then you can clearly see they come AFTER the news and are therefore a SINGLE symptom.

Fish Oil Supplements And Depression

By Lori Matthews

Researchers have known for a long time that the sea holds many great cures and treatments for humans. Some of the compounds made naturally in sea life are not found anywhere on land and have proven to help humans in a number of ways. Now researchers are saying that fish oil that contains omega-3 fatty acids can help people fight depression.

Doctors at the Massachusetts General Hospital who have watched the clinical trials report that they are impressed with the results. These early results should encourage more testing. Since fish oil does not have negative effects, it is a study that can easily be conducted on a wide scale.

Top 3 Causes of Panic Attacks and How to Cure Them

By Tim Shank

What do your panic attacks do to you? Do they wake you up in the middle of the night? For me, that is the worst way that you could ever experience panic because you are disoriented in the first place from being asleep, and it may take you some time to come to terms of what is happening to you. The problem with panic attacks for many of us is that it doesn’t matter how much you rationalize them out, in fact sometimes it’s downright impossible to do, but they are real and they don’t go away and you don’t just get over it. They may also be debilitating in the way that you may worry about the next time they come upon you, causing you stress even before they become a reality. All of us are different, but here are some of the top causes of panic attacks and how you overcome them.

For some of us they may be caused by a vitamin deficiency, usually a B vitamin deficiency. If this is the case then you are among the fortunate ones, but supplementing yourself with B vitamins you may be able to overcome the panic attacks.

Depression at Night - A Troubled Sleep

By Colette Dowling

Four out of five people who become depressed approach bedtime with varying degrees of dread. They toss and turn, restlessly occupied with negative thoughts. Obsess about something dumb they did, or think they did, at the party that night. Money, taxes, their teeth falling out of their gums, you name it they worry about it. When I became depressed after a long bout of anemia (many chronic illnesses produce depression), I found myself worrying about my studio tumbling into the stream that lay next to it. I knew it wasn’t rational but I felt helpless to control what my mind was doing.

Anyone who’s been depressed knows how it goes. A relentlessly disturbing train of thought can begin with just the tiniest kernel of reality. The bank along the stream next to my studio was etched away in places, damaged by heavy spring rains. As my brain cells altered with the depression, the erosion escalated in my mind–first to the loss of my studio; ultimately to the loss of my home, on the same piece of land. Perhaps I should sell before my entire nest egg was swept away by the ravages of nature; on the other hand, th real estate market was so bad, maybe there would be no nest egg, and so on. Obessionl thoughts like these go hand in hand with depression and lying in bed awaiting sleep provides prime time. Lucky were the mornings when sanity returned, and I was able to have the calming thought, “This house has been sitting here since 1775; I don’t think it’s going anywhere soon.”

By: Andrew Bicknell

Depression is one of the most debilitating mental disorders of our modern era. It affects nearly 10 million Americans every year. Although it is primarily thought of as a mental condition it can also inflict varying amounts of pain and discomfort that manifest as physical symptoms of depression.

One of the problems with the associated with the physical symptoms of depression is the misdiagnosis of the mental illness itself.
